Governor Whitmer appoints Vanderberg, Huang to MIDC
Two Grand Rapids residents have recently been appointed to the MIDC by Governor Whitmer.
Alan Vanderberg is the county administrator of Kent County. Vanderberg previously served as county administrator of Ottawa County and as an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State University. Vanderberg holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Michigan and a Master of Public Administration from Michigan State University. Vanderberg serves on the boards of Grand Rapids Downtown, Inc.; The Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority; The Grand Rapids SmartZone- LDFA; Grand River Network; Experience Grand Rapids; Grand Valley Metro Council; Housing Kent; Housing Next; Frederick Meijer Gardens; and The Right Place. Alan Vanderberg was appointed as the nominee of the Senate Majority Leader for a term commencing July 10, 2025, and expiring April 1, 2029. Vanderberg succeeds Paul Bullock, whose term has expired.
Charissa Huang is a shareholder and attorney at Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge. Huang holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctorate from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. Charissa serves as a board member for the Grand Rapid Public Schools Foundation and was a former board member of the Grand Rapids Pride Center. Charissa Huang was appointed as the nominee of the Senate Majority Leader for a term commencing June 5, 2025, and expiring April 1, 2029. Huang succeeds Debra Kubitskey, whose term has expired.
